"Mass-Transit "
Mass-transit is on everyones mind, should we or shouldn't we build it and what about raising our sales tax from 4% to 4.5% to help pay for the project. Hawaii needs a mass-transit system, we've needed one for over 20 years. But, I would not raise the taxes on the people to pay for it! The funding for this project should come from private donations. Besides, who will benefit the most after the system is up and running. Let's see, our system will start out in the resort area of Ko' Olina and if we stay along the side of the existing railroad tracks we would go through Kapolei. Unless they figure out how to tie in Waikele we would next pass through Pearlridge Mall heading for the Nymitz industrial area and Honolulu International Airport. Next is the Alakawa comercial zone than Dole Cannery, Aloha Tower, Ward Warehouse and Ward Centre, than Ala Moana, and finaly ending up in Waikiki. You can even include all those land owners that will also benefit by having a mass-transit system running just outside thier front doors. Now, don't you think that these people can afford to pay $250,000,000.00 annualy between themselves. Sure they can, especially since they're going to make alllllll that money back and more once the mass-transit is complete. If you're going to raise everyones taxes, it better be for something that will benefit everyone! Maybe enough bird flu vaccine for the whole state of Hawaii?
